What is 21K gold?
21 karat gold is 87.5% pure gold and is the dominant jewelry gold in Egypt, Saudi Arabia, the UAE and much of the Middle East.
Bracelets, bangles and wedding sets sold in Gulf souks and Egyptian gold markets are commonly 21k, and prices there are quoted per gram of 21k.
21k has a rich orange-yellow tone and is soft enough that intricate pieces can bend with heavy wear.
How the 21K gold price per gram is calculated
The world gold price is quoted for pure gold in US dollars per troy ounce. Dividing by 31.1035 gives the price of one gram of pure gold, currently $134.85. 21K gold is 87.5% gold, so we multiply by 0.875: $134.85 × 0.875 = $118.00 per gram. In euros that is €105.44 and in pounds £89.19.
Example
A 21K chain weighing 12.4 grams contains 10.85 grams of pure gold. Its melt value today is $1,463. If a buyer pays 85% of melt, you would receive about $1,244.
