Data source
Spot prices for gold (XAU), silver (XAG), platinum (XPT) and palladium (XPD), historical daily prices and foreign exchange rates are provided by MetalflowAPI. Historical series start in 1968 for gold and silver and in 1990 for platinum and palladium.
Update frequency
Live prices and exchange rates are refreshed about every minute. Pages are cached for a few minutes on our servers to keep them fast; the timestamp of the underlying data never lags by more than a few minutes during trading hours. The market is closed at weekends, so prices remain at Friday's last level.
Price formulas
Metals are quoted in US dollars per troy ounce. One troy ounce equals 31.1035 grams.
- Price per gram (pure) = spot price per ounce ÷ 31.1035
- Price in local currency = USD price × USD/local exchange rate
- Value of an item = price per gram (pure) × weight in grams × purity
- Daily change = (current price − previous reference price) ÷ previous reference price
Karat purity math
Karat expresses gold content in 24ths; hallmarks express it in thousandths. We use the standard hallmark fineness values:
- 24K = 999 = 99.9% gold
- 23K = 958 = 95.8% gold
- 22K = 916 = 91.6% gold
- 21K = 875 = 87.5% gold
- 20K = 833 = 83.3% gold
- 18K = 750 = 75.0% gold
- 16K = 667 = 66.7% gold
- 15K = 625 = 62.5% gold
- 14K = 585 = 58.5% gold
- 12K = 500 = 50.0% gold
- 10K = 417 = 41.7% gold
- 9K = 375 = 37.5% gold
- 8K = 333 = 33.3% gold
Silver, platinum and palladium use millesimal fineness directly: 925 sterling silver is 92.5% silver and 950 platinum is 95% platinum.

1 kilogram = 1,000 g · 1 tola = 11.6638 g · 1 tael (Hong Kong) = 37.429 g · 1 grain = 0.0648 g.
